Fine motor skill are an essential part of our young ones development. Take a look at these 20 fabulous ideas and get started right away!
20 Fine Motor Skills for Toddlers
Cut out a shape sorter and use what you have laying around the house. Threading pasta is another fine motor skill.
Try this super frugal idea of a cardboard tube and hair elastics from Craftulate.
Every toddler needs to learn how to dress themselves but the art of getting dressed is also a fine motor skill, make this learning experience into a fun activity with Stir the Wonder’s easy dressing boards.
Upcycle a wipe box to look like a monster and feed it! Try the classic spice bottle and toothpick activity.
Use everyday activities that gown ups do and incorporate it into pretend play like House of Burke did with this pretend play grooming activity.
Another important aspect of fine motor skills is learning to squeeze things, Craftulate has many ideas for you. I also love the idea from School Time Snippets with a chalk board on “fire”.
Use an egg carton for a nest with little birds and feed them “worms”.
Encourage a variety of painting activities, these are also great as a pre-writing skill, such as this zig zag painting.
I may have to admit a little addiction to velcro after seeing all the things Lalymom says can be done with velcro while promoting fine motor skills among other things!
Also be sure to check out the uses for velcro rollers! Brilliant! For my kids the velcro dot craft sticks (click for instructions and buy list) are still in the top 3.
Another extremely quick fine motor activity is to use pipe cleaners and cut up straws.
Learn about the rainbow and promote fine motor skills from School Time Snippets. I love this mini fine motor activity tray from Little Bins for Little Hands, proving that fine motor skills are just about anywhere!
Color mixing is tons of fun and with this little exploration from Racheous you get to use droppers!
Introduce new experiences, such as excavation of some dinosaur fossils like House of Burke did. Just the surprise of finding something in the sand is exciting!
Reuse and recycle is an awesome concept when it comes to homemade toys! I just love this fine motor dashboard from Lalymom.
This week my co-hosts have a few more ideas for you too!
