Not only is today’s Blog Dare prompt, A Year In Review, which I find rather fitting considering the things running around in my head for 2013, but also an important introduction for me, to this rather new blog, here I am.
How does one write a summary of your year, especially since my blog is rather new and doesn’t have an entire years worth of posts to fall back on? Well if you are anything like me, Facebook and my zillions of pictures folder, which I have organized by year and by month, since the birth of my first child.
I have also copied from my activity log of Facebook some of my most memorable status’.
You will see that some months are rather empty, I’ll refer to them as living life and enjoying the company of my little family.
January 2012
Some of my favorite pictures and moments. Riley 33months, Ty 18months, 20-24 weeks pregnant. The start of 2012 went smooth as far as I recall. January would have been the month my baby would have been due, if it had stuck around. I lost the pregnancy at about 8 or 9 weeks in. But I was consoled by the fact that I was 20 weeks pregnant at the time, and very excited about my gender scan in February.
I had also got a crochet hook set for Christmas and was learning how to crochet. Some sewing was done and a colorful bear was made out of scraps as well as a little pillow for my youngest boy.
In the picture: The boys messing dirt from my poor pot plant, various poses and a rare moment with my oldest boy listening to the baby kick. (20weeks)
February 2012
Some of my favorite pictures and moments. Riley 34months, Ty 19months, 22-26weeks pregnant.
February is my favorite month! Why? Because it has my birthday in it! O and that thing called Valentines day 😀 We also found out we were having a little girl!! Due 10 June 2012.
Some random Facebook Status
“3rd weekend the water is off.. and its raining.. it baffles me…”
“scan went well after a 3 hour wait in the waiting room… baby is well and is measuring on the dates and is 600g already! and we are having a little girl!!! i was truly expecting to see the trademark twig n berries on the screen!! i think i’m in shock still.. hehe”
In the pictures: A lot of pink crochet going on, fun with balloons, playing in the water and just being kids.
March 2012
Some of my favorite pictures and moments. Riley 35months, Ty 20months, 26-30weeks Pregnant.
We did some hiking in the area above the house, a lot of “hiking”, boys really enjoyed it and had to cool off in the little tubs afterwards! It was Granny’s birthday, but since she is on another continent, we drew a card for her. My order of clothing for our little girl arrived as well! Both grandmothers were also sending items.
I made a lot of posts in my private birth group about birthing options. Considering my previous experiences.
My world of warcraft healing buddy had her first baby, a surprise little girl. She had kept hiding at all their scans! My birth group welcomed the first baby born for June2012 in March, well February actually, on the 29th! Very impatient to be born on a leap year, only 32 weeks gestation. A very loooong hospital stay with a lot of ups and downs. Today she is a very healthy and happy little girl!
At the end of March I had this to say about our baby.
“my baby has become a lazy stretcher with a vicious kick in the ribs or exit every now and again, proof she is getting larger and larger! starting to look forward to meeting my little girl in June, and wondering how her two bigger brothers (3 and 2) are going to take all the baby antics (like crying and mommy hogging) she is likely to throw at them.. lol :D”
In the picture: Going for a ride in the taxi and actually sitting next to each other, 28 week baby bump, all sorts of hiking pics, drawing cards and both boys wanting to hold my hand on a town trip.
April 2012
My favorite pictures and moments. Riley 3 years!, Ty 21months, 30-34 weeks pregnant.
My oldest turned 3 on the 23rd, Dinosaurs were the order of the day. Cut it extremely close with his gift arriving at the post office just in time.
Once again I was pondering birthing options, c-sec or to have a second try at the vbac. I even saw a local midwife.
Facebook Status’
“seen a new midwife this afternoon, so next week its bloods for iron lvls and a scan to check out the ol’ section scar to see if i’m able to have a vba2c.. i at least get to see baby and get a breakfast out 😀 she also had a feel for baby, got kicked for her effort by said baby, but she is head down, chilling on my right side with a foot under my rib most likely.”
“fgf! my MIL’s parcel arrived here by us in South America from Cypress this morning 😀 with a bunch of cutie baby items! only down side is there is still no word on my moms package from South Africa 🙁 hope it hasnt been lost at sea!”
“i think i have the preg insomnia, 3rd night in a row i’ve woken at 2am 🙁 i land up reading an ebook till like 4am, then trying to get some sleep, then up with kids at 6am.”
“excited!!! picked up Riley’s b-day pressies this morning at the post office with 2 days to spare!! shew! tomorrow i bake.. hehe”
had an awesome scan today! saw little Isabel, confirmed she is still a girl, saw her looking around! eye socket movement and all! eating her hands cause mommy didnt have breakfast because of bloods.. hehe
In the pictures: Riley’s various birthday photo’s, Ty being all cute in his cot, Ordered a “New Baby” book in my attempt to prepare the boys and 34weeks pregnant baby bump.
May 2012
My favorite pictures and moments. Riley 3 years +2m, Ty 23months, 34-38 weeks pregnant.
Just enjoyed the last month with my boys before the birth of my third. Went visiting, swimming, sand pit playing, etc and crochet a blanket for a friend that had her little girl.
Some Facebook Status’
“your package has arrived in the USA! via new zealand post of all places. but the tracking number matches.”
“will do! i go see hospital tomorrow to short paperwork out and get a c-sec date as all the dr’s refuse to let me try for a vbac again. some law and some hectic jail time i hear! so its either have baby at home with no assistance (no midwife wants to come either) or just have another section and get my baby.. lol.. but in all likelyhood i will have my little one by the end of next week!”
“Week 38. I feel HUGE!! Estimated baby of 2.8kg so far. Got a Csec date for 7th June.”
“:O so many chocolate posts!! i neeed to go hunt chocolate now.. maybe even bake a cake.. i scared my last baby out by making chocolate balls at home.. he thought “i’m getting out of here before she eats all that!!” .. who knows.. maybe it works again.. hahaha”
In the pictures: Ty facinated by the “New Baby” book, various shots of swimming, visiting and sandpit play, as well as Riley feeling the baby kick and the flower that was on the blanket I made. 38 weeks baby bump.
June 2012
My favorite pictures and moments. Riley 3 years +2m, Ty 23months, Isabel is born.A very busy month indeed! The birth of my little girl via c-sec, and then the hospital stay, I hate hospitals, getting home and recovery. Thankfully my husband decided to hire a housekeeper and within a week of me coming home from the hospital she was in employment! 😀 My collection of Facebook status’ say it well! Those first 12 weeks with a newborn are RUFF.
Facebook Status’
“Riley has been phone napping my iPhone the last week and playing angry birds. Today the blocks looked very similar. ….”
“This is how naughty little dishwasher unpacker, kitchen shelf destroyer, toy throwing, pillow distributing on floor, puddle messer angels take their naps. Lol. O and that was just this morning…..”
“39w+2 – Last bump Tuesday. Eviction booked for Thursday!!”
“Little Isabel Dawn Roux arrived this morning via elective csection at 3 days short of her due date at a dainty 2.9kg. Just as well I was booked for today. I went into labour this morning. They even got me to the theatre 3 hours earlier. Cause contractions were 3 min apart by the time I was prepped. Lol”
“Really can’t wait to go home in the morning! My own bed. Peace and quite of a tiny town. A lovely caring husband. And 2 very curious boys who were too tired yesterday evening to even meet their little sister. But plenty days for that! My packet of oreo’s did get well enjoyed by the boys though. :)”
“Riley is a bit baffled why Izzy didn’t grab the biscuit like Ty would. Lol. Priceless face.”
“My new fav pic 😀 and the first one of all 3 kids in the same photo :D”
“Just love fathers day ;)) get to share chocolates. ;))”
“You just had a baby woman!! Give yourself a week or two. Lol”
“what a day! 5 hour breastfeeding session this morning, with a miserable baby. then she slept 5 hours and my boobs as well as my nips were aching.. so tried to have a shower and the water heater packed up mid-shower.. so had to rinse in the freezing water! luckily the sun was still out at 5pm and had a quick bake to warm up. then hubby took my csec stitches out.. ouch! .. i think i deserve a cake.. will bake one in the morning.. here’s to a better tomorrow. :D”
“Baby All clean after a nice relaxing warm bath. We won’t mention the feed me now dressing drama. Hehe”
“after doing it solo with 2 kids, hubby has decided to not help and instead get me a helper and he can still work … i must say its been so nice to just relax and nurse the baby while my wonderful helper runs after my 2 toddlers trying get them to eat lunch.. lol”
“The little miss slept for a solid 3 hours this morning. Which I used to spend time with my 2 boys. Feeling so much better just for that little bit of play time with my 2 and 3 year old. Xx”

Another month of family enjoyment! Ty turned 2 years old and enjoyed eating his favorite carrot cake. I made Izzy her first headband, we got 7 little chickens and Riley refused to go to bed! he has been big friends with them ever since! New red boots were purchased for him and he took them to bed for 2 nights. Little Izzy got her first teddy, a moomoo and I hope I never forget how her socks made her look like she had colorful boots on!
My friends little girl who was born at 28 odd weeks gestation and weighted just 1kg, turned one year old!
A few Facebook Status’

Izzy had her first trip to town.
“Thank you magic seahorse!! 3am feed baby down. 2 year old wakes with poo nappy I change him and he won’t stop screaming cause he’s still tired. Play his little music box which lasts like 30sec. O wait. Play seahorse. He’s asleep cuddling the seahorse 🙂 back to bed for me :)”
“Lol. Caught them both mid movement. Rain dance on the compost bags?? After we planted stuff boys… After!!”
“Izzys bumbo arrived!!! And Riley recalls what it’s for. Lol”

The clouds burst over the valley and it rains and hails so much the water comes threw the house, soaking everything and making an indoor pool, which the boys REALLY enjoyed.
This was also the month I started blogging again and Powerful Mothering was created.
Facebook Status’
Half hour pour down finished with hail and really strong wind and an indoor dip pool for the kids. In the front door down the stairs and out the back door.
“A surprise play nook for the kids this morning. Taking bets on how long those floor blocks stay in place. Lol”
“Friends are like panties… Some crawl up your ass. Some snap under pressure. Some don’t have the strength to hold you up. Some get a little twisted. Some are your favorite.. Some are cheap. Some are naughty. Some are full of shit, And some actually cover your ass when you need them to.”

Kids to bed with no fuss!! AND I didn’t have to put anyone back into bed last night either! LOVE the new beds! ♥
Look what Daddy got a picture of this morning!! Izzy’s first tooth!! @ 6 months and 3 days old ♥
Today we had Avocado for the first time. “stalking” the spoon.
Boys little tree is up for Christmas. Riley was super excited and hung the little balls all by himself then stared at the lights when it got dark. Ty tried to remove the balls and pull the lights off. Izzy watched with fascination.

2012 Summary
Looking back on the year I am glad to say there was a lot of family time. For me the first half was spent pregnant, preparing and excited with the the coming arrival of a baby, then the second half, trying to find some sleep with said baby. In 2012 the boys mainly had free play with a few crafts and puzzles type things in between. Looking ahead at 2013, some structured play and learning will be worked in for their ages.
Most of this post is about the family, I blog about my family, what they get up to, all sorts of crafty things we do and things like milestones. I hope you found this 2012, A year in review, post interesting and got to know me a bit better.
Thanks for reading! If you wrote a similar post, please leave a link below, I would love to get to know you too! ♥

Wow, just wow! I am in awe of anyone who can have three littlies and take that many photos. We have one daughter who is eleven and if it weren’t for her school pictures, I’m not sure we would have any record of what she looked like! 🙂 Congratulations on an eventful year and have a happy and prosperous New Year!
Nicolette Roux says
Thanks! They are all taken with my iphone, which seems to always be around, so easy to take said pics! Happy New Year to you too! Thanks for popping in.

I don’t even know where to start with this comment! No wonder this took you all day! This must have taken a great bit of effort. It is awesome to see them grow throughout the year, especially Izzy scroll too fast and you miss it 🙂
Nicolette Roux says
🙂 most defiantly! I love how the boys have “sprouted” over the year. For Izzy we have gone threw many piles of clothing as she grows. Those blocks I made were from old clothing. I still have to write up that post!
