100 days of play, sharing simple ideas on how to connect with your children through play!
What better way to connect with the kids than getting down on the floor with them! This simple activity requires some card boxes and crayons. Something almost every house that has little ones will have!
We were lucky enough to still have a rather large sheet of cardboard from the fridge we bought that had not gone to the trash yet. You know, in that room where everything for “later” is kept.
The kids (2 and half year old and almost 4 year old) were extremely curious to what mommy was doing dragging a box to the middle of the floor for.
Once the crayons came out, they literally attacked the blank canvas! First I thought drawing little circles would be fun and colorful, we got a very nice bunch done before my 2 year old sneaked off with most of the primary colors.
I know from experience he usually does something similar when bored with an activity. We changed it up a bit, by tracing and coloring in some hands and feet. My 4 year old loved all this, and I am sure, could have happily traced his foot prints all over our cardboard canvas!
I then decided to make a little car track for the kids on the huge area, which I think we will use a few time still. This really got the boys going, houses, apple trees and rather large cats followed.
We had a lot of fun for sure! After coloring most of the tracks and trees in we moved over to play cars.

We used to do it when my daughter was around 2yrs old – she especially liked the sound of drawing on a cardboard. Nice reminder, we might try it again, now including the younger who is now 2, so I’ll bet we’ll have a lot of fun!

Such a simple idea that’s perfect for all ages. I don’t know why I haven’t done this with my son. He would love it and frankly so would I. I love doodling on anything and everything. Great idea and post. Pinned :).
