Welcome to another month of awesome taste safe dough recipes! This month we explore clean mud. (see all 12 months of sensory dough here!)
Clean mud is traditionally made from ivory soap microwaved or toilet paper mooshed up with water. You can see this isn’t very safe safe for the little taster kids! (I have 2 of them!)
My solution: make your own clean mud from things in the kitchen!
How to make taste safe clean mud recipe:
- 1 cup Cornstarch
- 5 tablespoons melted coconut oil
- 2+ tablespoons water (amount depends on your altitude)
Directions to make clean mud:
Mix your melted coconut oil and cornstarch together then slowly add the water until it becomes a nice mix. You don’t want it too watery!
Once the clean mud recipe is followed and you have a lovely substance to explore, give it to the kids!
I have once again used my trusty trays for this activity.
The kids love the feeling of this clean mud and I must say the coconut left my hands feeling very moisturized and silky smooth!
Some walls were made and “snow balls” rolled to knock it down.
Near by pipe cleaners were added to the fun.
We even made a balancing tree and put our smaller clean mud balls in the spirals!
This is such a lovely sensory explore!

Brilliant! I always feel a bit bad when the toddlers can’t join in the messy play – will be trying this out tomorrow 🙂
