Welcome to another week of Playful Preschool!!
Follow the hashtag #playfulpreschool on social media, where we bring you some hands on learning for your preschooler!
This weeks theme is Night Time, also be sure to check at the bottom of this post for all the links to more ideas on this theme from my fabulous blogging friends who are also a part of this group!
Making art provides a ton of opportunities to learn for a preschooler.
For today’s lesson you will need:
- sheets of paper
- glitter glue (we had gold, silver and blue)
- glue stick
- foil
- scissors
- q-tips
Use some foil to cut out stars. Here we have some practice in cutting for your preschooler and dependent on their level of skill with the scissors it can be rather rewarding to cut their own shapes. Even if they don’t look like stars! I helped my 5 year old cut our stars but I always offer for him to do it with me, to encourage him on.
Next use those skills to glue the stars down and squeeze the glitter glue for shooting stars. (squeezing is a fine motor skill!)
Here is an opportunity to talk about what makes a shooting star well a shooting star!
This next one was a favorite as we sang a bit of twinkle twinkle little star while we made it. The silver is the star and the blue around it is the night sky. Nursery rhymes are just lovely, and our star definitely was high up in the night sky!
What is a night time sky with out the moon? Here we had the opportunity to talk about a full moon and a 1/4 moon.
Be sure to mark when your next full moon is and take a look at it with your little one!
Pin this night time sky with teaching pointers for later!

We love to look at the night sky so this will be a perfect activity to compliment that.

I love the idea of practicing scissor skills by cutting foil. And what’s not to love about glitter glue? it is great how you extended the lesson by teaching about the night sky while enjoying the craft activity.

I love that you used tin foil to make the stars and moon!
Amanda says
OOh – my kids like to play with tin-foil, but I haven’t let them cut it. They are like crows with shiny stuff!
