Since my last journal entry life’s been, urm.. dull.. haha! but sometimes dull is good. Relaxing, chilling.. wait.. same thing!
Anyways, last night we called the chickens to go to bed in their new roost and only 5 came, we have 6, looking around and calling and calling, the missing rooster was nowhere. So the 5 were put into their coop and closed up for the night. Thankfully the rooster must have been sleeping in the coop as when I opened it in the morning there he was.
I was worried the whole night though, as the previous week someone had found the little flock on the road and tried to carry them away!
We had a very traumatized hen, who still hasn’t laid an egg, one rooster with bad wounds and a limp, the other rooster was found hours later down the road bound and missing 30% of his feathers! But still ALIVE!!
The theory behind the whole incident is that the people saw the flock on the road, we live on a hill with a little road that’s used maybe a handful of times a day by our 2 neighbors and some workers, thought they were wild, and made a grab. We then called the birds for their morning grain, the people in question heard us calling and dumped the 2 roosters. One bound and one badly wounded.
The wounded one made it back up the hill to the gate and that’s the direction that the bound rooster was found. To say the least I was upset! But all 6 are well and the badly injured is healing up.
Our hen “Scruffy” who I have learned is some kind of “frizzle” chicken (those feathers sticking up everywhere!) has taken to laying an egg a day! She’s not broody at all, lays and leaves. Free eggs!
Actually just today, which is Saturday, the day I bake all sorts of things! I made a double batch of ginger cookies using her eggs! Other things baked include bread buns as well as cinnamon and raisin muffins for the kids.
Little Miss now has 2 bottom teeth!! they are sticking out more every day, soon we will have a toothy smile! Last week she was gagging on solids and these last 2 or 3 days have just clicked in, I have been feeding her avocado and today she had her first real meal portion of broccoli and rice.
She grinned and chatted threw the entire meal, while watching her two older brothers eat as well. Happy baby! Tonight we see how she sleeps, with yesterdays avo in her tummy I only got up twice (usually average of 4). The nappy change in the morning should be interesting. ewww
The town is abuzz this evening, As I mentioned I live on the hill, New Year parties are already in the swing! Wondering if we will get to see fireworks New Years as all they seem to be setting off is the ones that go BANG. It echo’s threw the entire valley. I can’t imagine how loud it is in the actual town.
We have no invites this year to any new years parties, 3 kids in tow I guess. Just me and the hubby with 3 sleeping kids. 😀 (Movie Marathon!!)
Do you have party plans? Maybe camping in like me?
