I have for along time wanted to start a quiet book for the kids, I have gathered felt inspiration in my felt and quiet book pinterest board for ages!
Today is fine motor friday and earlier in the week I had this awesome idea to mix a quiet book page with fine motor skills, this is what happened.
I now have a lovely page with the kids names on for the first page of my first ever quiet book as well as something that little fingers can move around.
I also grouped the beads in fives so that we could do a bit of counting. Having the kids names there will also encourage name recognition.
Here is how the felt quiet book page is made, without sewing I might add.
You will need:
- Felt of the size you desire for your quiet book
- Extra felt to cover the ends of your pipe cleaners
- 5 pipe cleaners of your color choice
- Beads with letters*
- Pony beads in your choice of color*
- a glue gun
*disclaimer: the items * above where provided free to me from craftprojectideas.com to play with, many thanks!
I threaded the 5 pipe cleaners with the names of the kids and pony beads in counts of 5, heated up the glue gun and stuck the ends of the pipe cleaners down to the felt. I had to trim the ends on the one side because the pipe cleaners where a bit longer than my A5 felt.
Next I glued 2 extra bits of felt over the ends to stop little fingers from pulling the pipe cleaners off.
My 22 month old was very curious to this new little item she spied after her nap. My 4 year old helped me make it as he is less likely to eat said pony beads!
Having a quiet book page like this also allows my toddler to feel and safely play with the beads without me having to worry she is going to put them in her mouth.
My 3 year old put this page to the test as he tried to remove the beads rather forcefully, they held and he moved on.
My quiet book page is currently in a ring binder where I am most likely to keep it until all the pages are complete and I can create a fully felt bound quiet book.
