Color rice is one of our favorite things to play with!
A few months ago we made a batch of color rice for the first time, it turned out beautiful and the kids really enjoyed mixing the single colors into an entire rainbow rice combination! But there is more we can do than just measure the rice from cup to cup in our sensory tubs!
Today we explored spirals with our color rice and (school grade) glue.
This activity is rather simple. Get a sheet of paper and draw spirals with your glue! I like to have the paper in a tray to contain the color rice to one area. Get the kids to sprinkle the rice over the spiral and make sure all the glue is covered.
Update: Thanks to our friends at True Aim Education for suggesting an added fine motor skill of pre-drawing the spiral in pencil and having the kids trace it with the glue.
Turn the paper on its side and gently tap to dislodge the extra rice off into the tray. Leave to dry. Once dry kids can follow the spiral with their fingers to the center and if you made enough space run a marble in the spaces to the center!
