Here is how I made some delicious fig fruit leathers and fig jam.
On our last trip to the fruit market I was delighted to discover figs! I quickly added a packet to my shopping basket grinning ear to ear. Here i am a few days later and they are sitting in the fridge, looking at me, what to do with them!
First things that come to mind. Jam and baking them somehow in a desert.
I had a nosy around Google for some inspiration and my top 2 choices for my bag of figs are: jam and fruit leather. I enjoy fig jam and I have really been wanting to try make fruit leather. I have never made either of these items!
My recipes of choice: Spicy Fig Orange Microwave Jam (minus the orange and the microwave! as I have neither) and How to Make Fruit Roll ups.
Ingredients: diced fresh figs, sugar, lemon juice, ground ginger, ground cloves, cinnamon, butter
The Figs were washed, diced and measured to the required cups.
I set up 2 pots, one for the jam the other for the leathers. The jam has the same ingredients as the leathers minus some sugar.
After some simmering and string, the jam was transferred to get blended by my hand blender, then jarred and refrigerated.
The Fig mix for the leathers was spread out on a dehydrator sheet and placed on high to dry out. You are also able to do this with wax paper on a baking tray in the oven, but at a lower heat.
Once the fig fruit leather was dry I rolled it up and cut into little sections to nipple on. These were much enjoyed and surprising spicy as I think I added a bit too much clove!

I have never made fruit leathers. I always wanted to when my daughter was young, but we were always so busy it was easier to buy them! I will have to give this a try. Thanks for sharing.

I make fig preserves and fig jams every summer. Figs grow extremely well around here and everyone I know seems to have fig trees. Glad you enjoyed them. Fig leather sounds interesting.
