It is pretty commonly known that if a child is not engaging or interested, they will have a harder time learning the topic or skill at hand. This may seem like a big deterrent, but it’s not THAT hard to fix.
Providing exciting and fun activities for preschoolers may come down to something as simple as switching up the theme. Allowing children to learn with a theme they are already interested in, to be more specific.
So if you have a dinosaur lover in your midst, this numbers activity may just do the trick!
Dinosaur Simple Math Preschool Activity
This doesn’t mean that you have to run out and buy ALL the dinosaur things.
We have created this super simple dinosaur free printable pack to help you and your children. It is very low prep yet will be incredibly effective for practicing counting, number sense, comparing numbers and more.
Using pom poms and other small manipulatives also allows for fine motor skills practice.
One of the great things about this activity, is the low prep. Literally the only thing you need to do to set up this activity is to print out the pages and grab a few simple supplies.
What are these supplies?
and that’s it!
We have included dinosaur counting cards for numbers 1-20. This means it is great for toddlers, preschoolers, pre-k and even kindergarten aged children.
Another thing that I love about this set is that there are multiple ways that these cards can be made useful. I appreciate when activities or anything for that matter can be used in a variety of ways. It helps save time and money!
The first way that we use these cards is as counting cards. Each card has a number (1-20) and a twenty frame.
Have children place the correct number of pom poms into squares and count as they go. Repeat through all cards or just a few at a time. Whichever your child is ready for.

The next way to use these cards is comparison cards. Kids can pick two cards, put the correct number of pom poms in the squares then compare the two cards. For instance, the picture below, the numbers 2 and 20 were chosen. You can see how many more pom poms there are in 20 than in 2. This can be done with every number card!

These cards can also be used for children who are ready for a challenge. Pick two cards, count them just as before, add the pom poms but then ask the child to add the two numbers together. This can also be done with subtraction. Since these were not necessarily created for addition and subtraction, they can be used to introduce the concept to kids.
