This weeks fine motor activity is fall based! Here in Ecuador we don’t really have a fall but rather a dry season where some trees will shed extra leaves to help keep themselves alive during this time.
To make this fall tree you will need
- Contact paper
- One sheet each of brown, red, orange, yellow and green construction paper (I did not have brown contraction paper so used a brown foam sheet instead)
- Optional leaf punches
Unfortunately I do not have any leaf punches but if you do, this will add an extra fine motor activity for the kids to punch out some leaves.
I cut mine the old fashion way. First I cut a few strips of the construction paper (red, orange, yellow and green together) then taking the stack of 4 colors in strips and 2 bowls I cut half moon / half circles to get the leaf effect. I let the leaves fall in one bowl and the off cuts in another bowl.
For the tree I used one sheet of brown paper. Drew out a ruff tree trunk and cut the extra bits into long strips to resemble branches.
I then stuck some contact paper with the sticky side up on the wall with the help of painters tape. You can also do this activity on a window!
We then stuck the branches on and started adding leaves.
My 2 year old LOVES activities like this that let her stick things, she dived right in.
My 5 year old is a bit more accurate with his sticking and some leaves were actually on the branches.
But that is the fun of a fall tree isn’t it? The leaves are falling all over the place!
We made 2 lovely trees.
I think you will also love the fall wall hanging we made last year!

I love this fall themed activity! We lived in Houston for a number of years and most of our trees lost their leaves right before getting new ones…no jumping in the fall leaves. I hope you will come by Made for Kids and link up.

Why not go on a nature walk, collect leaves and other natural materials, and stick them to the contact paper?
