This is one of my favorite activities in the book because it is SO easy, fun and versatile.
Harvey immediately got the concept and of course loved not only tossing the pompoms in, but dumping them out, which is a cognitive challenge as the hole is in the middle of the side. There are many natural ways to extend and vary this play.
Materials:
- Large plastic bottle
- Tape
- Large pom poms or buttons
- Marker pen
Cut a large hole in the middle of your bottle large enough for your child to safely put their hand through. Use the tape to tape the edges of your mouth so that it doesn’t hurt your child as they stick their hands in there. The color tape also makes the mouth more visible for children to feed the monster. Draw 2 eyes with your marker pen or glue 2 large googly eyes on.
Children will then feed the monster the pom poms one by one then fish them out to start again.
This idea isn’t JUST for 1 year olds!
There are 40 more activities in the book and ALL include an activity variation AND “As They Grow” section, making this a Grow-With-Them book.
Activities are suited to 1, 2, 3 and even 4 year olds!
You’ll really get your money’s worth!
