Ok, I admit it, I love working with felt and after finishing up the no sew quiet book I have been looking at the pile of felt and pondering what to make next!
For today’s fine motor activity we went to some classic color sorting with our fine motor skills. This busy bag activity was done with my 2 year old.
How to make this color sorting busy bag
firstly you will need:
- Some large buttons (mine are from a lacing set)
- Matching color felt
- Your preferred method to join the felt (glue or sewing needle)
To make the circle pouch I used a random plastic container as the circle template, then cut out 2 circles in each color. Measure the button hole gap.
Cut the button hole gap. I made these rather large for little fingers! (see my 2 year old enjoying the buttons in the background!)
Now this is where you will either glue (I used a glue gun) the color circles together, use a sewing machine or just a simple needle and thread to join them.
You are now ready to play!
I use a tray to present activities like this one to the kids. It contains the extras and is a great space for the activity to take place.
For younger toddlers you might need to demonstrate the buttons going into the pockets to start this activity.
But once they get going they are rather occupied!
This is a great fine motor activity and also makes a wonderful busy bag!
Pin this fine motor color sorting busy bag for later!
