My 18 month old is very into fine motor skills and this little activity has been her favorite lately. Please supervise this activity with your little one.
You will need an empty spice bottle and preferably some color toothpicks. I colored mine using the same method as I color my rice and pastas, I just left the sticks in longer to absorb the color.
My spice bottle has some lovely big holes, perfect for fine motor skills practice!
At first I gave my toddler the closed spice bottle with the toothpicks already in it. She inspected the bottle and began shaking to get the sticks out. Once the bottle was open and contents all over the floor the fun began.
She carefully picked up each stick to replace it into the spice bottle. One by one.
My 3 year old was also intrigued by this activity and came over to inspect.

Hi Nicolette,
I’m a working mother of a 19-month-old girl. Unfortunately I have to work 7 days a week so I practically have no time to spend with my daughter. I always look for alternative ways to keep her busy and make happy at the same time. I’ve visited so many web sites but yours has truly INSPIRED me for some reason. I just hope I can find time to try your games mentioned here.
I just wanted to thank you,
Love
Kader

This is a great idea, I am just not sure that I want my 2.5 year old to play with them.

I think it greatly depends on the child. Mine was very delicate with her toothpicks and as i said this is a supervised activity. 😀
