It is fine motor activities Friday again!
This week we are into a bunch of ice play.
For this activity I used a silicone muffin mold, added some water a drop or two of food coloring and some plastic animals. Then let the tray freeze over night in the deep freeze.
Lets ICE PLAY!
I at first thought we would play a bit of “ice hockey” but my bare tray was not very slippery. Enter my solution! Foil!
I added a sheet of foil to add the slippery effect I wanted and got the bonus of a semi reflective surface too! Just don’t put it in direct sun, that’s blinding!
After a bit of spinning the ice around the foil I brought out the kitchen spatula and spoon plus a few bowls. The activity quickly turned into a scoop that ice and put it into the bowl race.
Trying to get those ice cubes onto the scoops was a great fine motor activity for the kids as well!
Of course my 2 year old decided that lifting it with her hand onto the spatula was also acceptable. This is ice play combined with fine motor activities after all!
My 5 year old then decided to free the dinosaurs. Which proved difficult.
We moved on to the next phase of this activity and put the ice play animals into a bit of shallow water! Watching them melt into different color pools and finally freeing the dinosaur and his animal friends!
Other ice play adventures we have had include:
