Finger Puppets for Kids Directions:
The easiest shape to cut out for your finger puppets is what I call a “hot dog” shape. You want a rounded oval, skinny in width, which you then cut in the center. Your two halves stacked together will make the base of the finger puppet.
Create your finger puppet base. You will need two halves for each puppet. For ours, we cut out a yellow, pink, and red base.
Once you have created your two halves as shown, use the craft glue to glue the two pieces together. You ONLY want to put glue on the perimeter of the halves, and avoid putting glue at the flat base since this is where your finger will go in. Add your glue and press the two pieces together until dry and secure.
Now, create the facial features of your farm animals. If you chose not to use googly eyes, you can make your own eyes using black and white felt. For our farm animals we made basic facial features cut from the felt. Some of the features included small ovals for ears, triangles for beaks, and simple dots for noses. If you decide to use googly eyes, you can apply them at this time as well.
After you cut out your facial features, use your glue to apply them to the face. Just glue, press, and hold.
Once all of your facial features are in place, your farm animal finger puppets can be used. Simply slip a finger into the unglued, flat edge and you are ready to go. Kids will love acting out their own plays and fingerplays, or using their puppets to follow along with songs or stories. When not in use, you can simply store these in a plastic bag.
These farm animal finger puppets are a fun rainy day craft for kids, and GREAT way to enhance story time! Give them a try and see how much hands on fun you can have.
