Today’s fine motor post is a rather special and exciting post!
This month not only marks the 2nd anniversary of this blog but the 1st anniversary of the weekly fine motor activities series which I was lucky enough to join at the start of this year with all the lovely ladies in the group!
To celebrate this milestone for the an entire year of Fridays full of awesome fine motor activities we each contributed our favorite, most popular and most well received activities to form a book for our readers!
Today’s activity is straight out of the new 99 Fine Motor Ideas for Ages 1-5 Book!!
I made a few simplifications to this activity to suit my younger 2 year old. I just love how most of the activities in this book can be altered to suit your own child!
To make our flower garden I used:
- 2 sizes of cupcake liners
- dot markers
- colorful craft sticks
- glue and play dough
Let your little one have fun dotting the various cupcake liners for the flower petals. This occupies my 2 year old for a little while!
Inspired from: Cupcake Liner Flower Craft: Fine Motor Art for Kids by Still Playing School, one of my fabulous co-authors in 99 Fine Motor Ideas for Ages 1-5. Get your copy today!
Once your liners are dry match them up with the bigger cupcake liner below and the smaller one above. Glue them together.
Dependent on the glue you are using either leave them to dry a bit or move onto the next step. My 2 year old is just learning to use a glue stick!
For the next step we used a more liquid glue and stuck our flowers to the colorful craft sticks. Here of course you can get more creative and paint some plain sticks green.
We actually split this activity over 2 play sessions which is about as it is with a 2 year old. They can only concentrate and have interest in a certain activity for a small amount of time.
The next day I took the dried flowers off the top of the fridge with much excitement from the kids and the batch of play dough on the kids craft table!
You can now use your flowers and plant them into the play dough! My 2 year old even gave them a sniff like she would a real flower. Imaginative play starts so young! <3
My 5 year old of course had to have a turn too!
Check out my new (co-authored) book!!
