Are you introducing or teaching colors to a toddler or preschooler? This is such a monumental development stage and can be super exciting for parents and teachers. And of course kids! This Color Flap Activity can help you teach and practice colors with your kids.
Printable Color Activity For Preschoolers
It is important for children to recognize and identify colors. Typically we ensure that this skill is practiced at least in the preschool years, if not before. Identifying and understanding colors can be helpful to connect the cognitive link between visual cues and words.
That is exactly what this printable activity does. It will help connect the color words, with the actual color as well as environmental objects that are typically each color.
It is important to help children identify not only the color and color word, but where in a child’s environment it can be found. For instance, we want a child to see the color purple and be able to identify that it is purple. We want them to see the word purple and know what it says and means. We also want children to see a purple grape and know that it is purple.
Learning about emotions is important too and this activity can help!
This activity is super helpful for all of these things.
To prep this activity, you will only need a few things.
Paper
Printer
Laminator (Optional)
The printables can be found at the bottom of this post.
There are very little steps to prepping this activity, but the first is to print out the activity set. There are 10 colors included. They are
Pink
Red
Blue
Purple
Yellow
Orange
Green
Black
Grey
Brown
You may choose to laminate each set, but this is not required. I like to laminate to preserve the life of the activity. It can be difficult to keep plain pieces of paper safe from wrinkles and tears!
To create these color flaps we literally folded the paper vertically in half, then cut on the dotted line.
Children may need help learning how to play with friends and this can help!
This will create a book like feature that will allow you to see the color, the color word and then open up the top flap or the bottom flap to see an object that is typically that color.
This is a simple activity to prep, but the benefits are outstanding!
This is great for an individual or small group activity for preschoolers, something to take in the car or even during quiet time.
