In the children’s book Stand Tall, Molly Lou Melon by Patty Lovell, we meet a child who is insecure about her looks. Certainly every child has felt this way at one time or another, which makes this book so relatable to many.
Teaching children to appreciate what they see in the mirror is important, so this mirror craft for kids is a fun way to help them see what it is about them that makes them special.
Make an Easy Mirror Craft for Kids
Read the book Stand Tall, Molly Lou Melon, then give this easy mirror craft for kids a try!
Here is what you will need:
construction paper
craft glue
scissors
markers
tin foil
Directions:
Begin by cutting out a hand mirror shape from a piece of construction paper. You can use any color you wish for this portion of the project. A simple oval shape with a handle works perfectly for this portion of the craft.
Next, cut out a slightly smaller oval from a piece of tinfoil. This will act as the mirror portion of the hand mirror. Glue it to the inside of the mirror shape. Run your hand over it to make sure it is as wrinkle free as possible. You don’t want any ripples in the foil if possible. Allow to dry.
Your craft should resemble a hand mirror now. How cool is that? Talk to children about positive things they see when they look in the mirror. Do they like their eyes? Their smile? Their eye brows? Think about the things that make them special and who they are.
On the border of the mirror, write the words “Stand Tall” or “I Love Me” and the child’s name. This mirror craft for kids will help kids remember to stand tall and be proud of who they are.
Your mirror craft for kids pairs well with the story, and can help kids appreciate who they are and remember that everyone has something to offer. Read the book Stand Tall, Molly Lou Melon with your child, then give this sweet mirror craft a try.
