My little girl turned two a few weeks ago! Six months ago I shared her favorite things to do at 18 months old, and today I want to share with you what she has been up to since 18 months to the grand 24 months — 2 years old. I’m including her favorite books, toys and, of course, activities that help her learn and also entertain her. It is my humble opinion that these are the best toddler activities at home for 18 to 24 month-olds!
Best Toddler Activities At Home – Toys
Plastic animals are still a staple, as well as a pretend tea set and (her brothers) Legos.
Best of all, she loves puzzles! The Melissa & Doug Farm Sound Blocks are currently getting a lot of use. I also made a lovely list of puzzles for under 3-year-olds as a part of my best toddler activities at home recommendations.
Best Toddler Activities At Home – Books
We still have the same range of books that I previously listed in books for under 3 year olds.I really should order some new ones soon!
Best Toddler Activities At Home – DIY
A large part of my toddler activities have been the DIY activities and crafts I come up with and share on the blog.
In January we did an entire month of simple play where she enjoyed various activities such as: water play with a whisk, Ice trains and painting on a chalk board (this one is still enjoyed!).
She was very eager to help make a flower gift with me too. A great helper she is, and eager to complete all of the best toddler activities at home.
Best Toddler Activities At Home – Sensory Play
This year we started on our journey of exploring 12 sensory doughs and making them taste safe for the little ones.
The most loved activity is play dough and cloud dough. I think she really enjoyed our loose parts play with play dough as well!
She also loves rice play and all three kids were more than happy to help me “play together” my new ebook RICE PLAY!
There was plenty of rice play to go around from a free-standing bin to frogs and fishing for fish.
We also explored a shaving cream-free sensory rainbow!
Best Toddler Activities At Home – Art
We didn’t do too much art in the last few months, but when we did she got right into it!
Take a look at these cute butterflies as well as our bubble wrap art works.
Best Toddler Activities At Home – Fine Motor Activities
My 2 year old is VERY interested in our fine motor adventures.
At 18 months she started with a supervised Spice Bottle and Toothpicks activity and at 19 months she joined in on her first pasting activity to make a little heart craft.
From then on she was the star of our fine motor activities every Friday! We did say these are the best toddler activities at home, after all.

She fed baby birds worms (pretend ones!), stuck velcro sticks together, played with: a fine motor counting hedgehog, fed a very hungry monster, explored a use for tiny tiny pom poms and reused an empty box.
A real quick think on the feet activity saved us from a toddler melt down.
Another first was learning to color and shapes match which we did with a DIY shape sorter as well as some rather clever lids.
At almost 2 she is able to do many fine motor activities. Our recent adventures include: crazy straws, sensory sticks, window shapes and ice play!
You are able to see all our fine motor activities here in my archives.

I also share my tips for keeping your younger toddler busy in the kitchen while you make dinner!
After gathering a great resource for printables for her I put together a list of what I had printed.
But my personal favorite for my now 2-year-old is the no-sew quiet book I made her!
I hope you enjoyed these suggestions on some of the best toddler activities at home, and that you and your toddler have fun making memories this season of life.

I just love your ideas, however, I often find my self not doing any of it, because I don’t have the basic supplies needed.
Can you please make an arts, crafts & activities list with all the basic items needed like pompoms, glue, velcrodots, sticks and so on, so I can make a “get started” kit?
I would really appreciate it.
Thanks!

My pleasure!
We live in a rather out of the way area so low cost and things from around the house are usually our go to items!
