I am sure you have heard about an amber teething necklace from every friend, aunt and stranger in the baby play group.
Today I would love to share with you my reasoning behind using an amber teething necklace and the effect I have witnessed over 3 young children. I will also share a few of my amber teething necklace safety tips.
Firstly I would like to thank Spark of Amber for sending me a mother child set of amber necklaces to use and write up this Amber 101 article. All views are my own.
What is amber?
Baltic Amber is a “fossil resin,” which is an organic substance produced by some species of pine trees grown in Northern Europe particularly southern regions of Scandinavia, Lithuania and the surrounding region like the bed of the Baltic Sea.
How does an amber teething necklace work?
Amber is a natural painkiller, our body heat triggers it to discharge oils which help children relax when they experience teething pain.
It has been used already for several decades in Europe and is seen as an excellent substitute for other pain relief drugs. Baltic Amber in particular has a higher concentration of these oils making it very effective.
Babies and toddlers have lessened symptoms when they have amber teething necklaces. Adults can also benefit from amber’s natural healing properties to relieve minor pains.
Do Amber Teething Necklaces Work? YES
Are amber teething necklaces safe?
Yes, amber is safe.
Amber Necklaces for Teething are not meant to be chewed by the infants, but the recommended effects of pain relieving are gained by ensuring that the amber beads are in contact with the skin when the baby wears it.
An amber teething necklace is safe when common sense is used and the following tips followed.
Amber teething necklace safety tips
1. Always make sure that your baby does not chew on the amber teething necklace.
2. Young babies should always be supervised when wearing an amber teething necklace.
3. Remove the amber teething necklace at nap times, bedtime and anytime the child is unsupervised.
4. Know your amber necklace. Real amber warms on the skin when worn. A good quality amber teething necklace for children is strung and individually knotted between all the amber nuggets and has a safety twist clasp. (as in the picture below)
The twist clasp ensures that should too much strain be placed on the necklace it easily breaks to relieve the pressure, hence NOT choking your child. The individual knotting is perfect for when the necklace is broken that amber nuggets are not loosened everywhere for your child to pick up and choke on either.
Spark of Amber teething necklace review
Spark of Amber obtain all their Baltic Amber beads directly from Lithuania, where the finest Amber is found.
Their necklaces are of excellent quality and follow my safety tips of the child’s teething necklace being individually knotted and closed with a twist clasp. The amber nuggets have also been smoothed for a more comfortable wear.
I LOVE my amber necklace! It is super comfortable and I can swear I feel it having a calming effect on me. Which must be good for my pregnancy right? Maybe I’ll have an easier labor too, I really hope so!
The below picture features an adult necklace as well as a child’s teething necklace.
I have been very fortunate to have had an amber teething necklace for all my children and I can testify to their effect on the children during times of teething. I especially find an amber teething necklace a must when molars start appearing.
The amber definitely lessens the discomfort and soothes which allows for my other natural remedies to work in unison with it.
I might also add it looks gorgeous on the kids 😉 My sons looked super handsome and my little girl looks like a princess!
I know you want one to try too! Pop on over to Spark of Amber and browse their collection of reasonably priced amber necklaces and bracelets.
