Make Your Own Tissue Paper Firefly Craft
Here is what you will need to make your tissue paper firefly:
green craft paper
white craft paper
yellow tissue paper
scissors
craft glue
pair googly eyes
Everything you need for this tissue paper firefly craft can be found at your local Dollar Store, making this craft one that is just as budget friendly as it is fun. Now let’s get crafting!
Directions:
Begin by cutting out the body parts of your firefly. You will need two ovals for the wings, a small circle for the head, both cut from your green craft paper. Set aside.
Cut out a white circle for the main body of your firefly. You want the circle to be about the size of a fist so you have plenty of space to glue the tissue paper on.
Now, assemble the body. Add dabs of glue to the two ovals which will serve as your wings. Glue them to each side of the circle as shown.
Add a dab of glue to the back of the small green circle. Glue right between the wings to act as the head. Optional: snip out a simple set of mini antennas to glue to the top of the head.
You can now add your googly eyes to the face. A drop of glue should do the trick.
Next, start creating the glowing belly of your firefly! Take yellow tissue paper and shred it into small pieces. Bunch the pieces up. Add dabs of glue to the back of each piece and press it to the white belly. Repeat until the whole belly is covered with the yellow tissue paper.
Your bright and cheerful tissue paper firefly is now ready to be enjoyed! Hang him in a sunny window so you never forget the book. And don’t forget, when the sun sets take your tissue paper fireflies outside and see if you can spot some real fireflies blinking in the night! They are so fun to look for, fun to count, and fun to catch.
Read the book Fireflies in the Night by Judy Hawes, then give this simple tissue paper fireflies craft a try. It is a cute way to enjoy the book even more!
