Weather Center Craft for Kids

Weather prediction is a fun skill to practice with children, as it can help them learn more about their environment and even help them plan for their day better. Teaching kids to look for signs of upcoming weather is important, and the book What Will the Weather Be by Lynda DeWitt can help kids better understand weather characteristics.

Make a Weather Center Craft with Kids

Enjoy this book with your child, then make this weather center craft for kids. It is a fun way for them to predict the weather daily!

Here is what you will need:

large white paper plate
craft paper or craft felt
craft glue
scissors

You can find all of these supplies at your local Dollar Store. Feel free to use either craft paper, craft foam, or craft felt. All will work well for this craft.

Directions:

Begin by using the craft felt, foam, or paper to cut out shapes that represent weather. You can cut out a blue cloud, a yellow sun, raindrops, snow, and even a rainbow. Just freehand these shapes, cut out, and set aside.

Take the craft glue and glue these shapes on the back of the paper plate. You want to glue them in a clock formation, keeping them closer to the edge and spacing them apart evenly. Just add glue and hold in place until secure.

Now, cut out an arrow. You can use the craft felt, paper, or foam for this step. Just freehand, cut out, and set aside. Don’t make the arrow too large, as you want it to fit on the paper plate while still being able to see the weather shapes.

To use your weather center, simply have kids talk about what the weather is like for that particular day. Once they decide, they can place the arrow pointing to that type of weather. This is a fun activity to enjoy at the start of each day and one that kids will look forward to.

If you wish, you can use a tack to secure the arrow in place.
