I felt like supermom with these shape tracing strips. Do you ever feel like that? It’s typically with the most simple of things. Something that I just happened to remember or do, the idea coming out of no where, that creates this feeling of OH YA BABY – I’m killing this mom thing. It’s simple things like these shape tracing strips that help remind me that I know my kids and I am doing a good job.
These Shape Tracing Strips are intended for young children who are not only learning shapes but who will benefit from prewriting skill strengthening.
Shape Tracing Strips
There are two added bonuses of this particular shape activity is that:
- You can take it on the go
- It can be used over and over
Once you prep these strips once, there is no other prep. You can literally hand it to your children or students over and over and they can learn while playing!
These can be taken outside for learning in fresh air, they can be taken to occupy children when they will have to wait (doctor office, restaurant, DMV, etc), or they can be given to students as ‘homework’.

There isn’t much needed to set up this activity. I set it up using:
So I started by printing out the Shape Tracing Strips Printable Set.
Next I cut out each individual strip.
After they are all cut, I laminated each of the strips and cut them out individually.
Once they were all cut, I took a hole punch and punched a hole in the top left corner. This is where I connected them all with a binder ring.
When they were prepped, I gave them to the kids. I handed them a dry erase marker as well and showed them how simple it was to trace the shapes.
Using The Shape Strips
When one shape strip is turned to, I ask the child to identify the shape as well as identify the shape word.
Then ask the child to count the sides on each shape as they trace the word and the first shape. Finally, just ask them to trace the remaining shapes.
