I love to watch little ones dive into imaginative play, diving deeply into whatever situation they are pretending to be in. I miss being able to immerse myself so deeply in playtime that you see another setting completely than the one you’re in, aided by nothing or maybe just a few props like with this Spring Flower Shop Dramatic Play Invitation.
Spring Flower Shop Dramatic Play Invitation
I spent maybe $8 total at the dollar store and it was well spent! Most of our items are reusable for another day and they led to hours of play. Take them with you to choose their own supplies from a dollar store or craft store or surprise them with this set up as an addition to a Valentine’s Day unit, a spring unit study, or just for the fun of it.
Here are some ideas for items to set up your flower shop…
- silk flowers (of course)
- fake plants (we used succulents)
- plastic vases
- pots, other containers
- florist foam
- tissue paper
I just laid everything out in an open spot (this is our coffee table) and let my little one use her imagination to create arrangements by poking into the craft foam -which is great fine motor work.
She wrapped up bouquets that she then delivered around the house.
And spent quite a while fussing and arranging flowers and plants over and over.
To add another learning element to the dramatic play area you can lay out paper for writing down the names of the flowers, creating receipts, or notes to go along with the arrangements.
