It can take awhile to get a one year old to slow down enough to do this, but keep trying as it’s great for concentration and fine motor. I like the addition of animals because you can draw out the activity with pretend play and animal sounds. Don’t get frustrated if your child only rolls around in the blocks or keeps knocking your examples over, just roll with it. Kids this age love knocking things down.
Materials:
- Blocks of various shapes
- Optional plastic animals
Place the blocks on the floor and invite your child over to play with them with you. Show your child how you stack the blocks up one by one. Either let them fall over or knock them down. Watching things topple over is great fun.
