Building toys are on the top of our wish list for Christmas this year. Although most of these say 3+, my 18 month old plays alongside my 3 and 4 year old.
The more she masters the simple concepts of the building, the more complex her buildings become.

I love the idea of gears, with my first pick being the Kaleido Gears. Not only are they gears, but they also have patterns on top!
Another building set that my kids would enjoy is the Stacker Pegs Building Set. It would make a great group play for my 4, 3 and 18 month old with the older kids adding the layers and my younger sticking the pegs in.
Straws & Connectors are great for building up fine motor skills, make houses and forts or where ever your imagination takes you.
For the youngest ones a larger SmartMax Set is excellent to build endless structures with large pieces.
A fabulous building set that has caught my eye is Tobbles. Children can stack, spin, balance, and more. I love the open ended play.
I am once again going to recommend the Magna-Tiles. They are just that great!
