Counting is on of the corner stones of preschool education. Coming up with new ways to count from 1-20 is always a great idea! Having a collection of reusable busy bags for this is a great idea! You get to rotate the activities to avoid boredom and disinterest.
We love this busy bag in our collection!
1-20 Counting Busy Bag Directions:
Cut out half a circle in red for the watermelon part. Cut a green rim to add on for the rind. A great way to get an even circle is to use a bowl. My watermelon is made from foam board but you can use felt or even paper or card stock. The important part is to have the colors so that it looks like a watermelon.
Gather some black parts to represent the watermelon seeds. Use pom poms, buttons or even pony beads like i did.
You will also need a 1-20 counting dice. You can find them here.
If you have a higher counting student you can even add multiple of these dice. This offers the child an opportunity to use addition with the dice and to count out those higher numbers.
The directions for this game are super simple. Set out the watermelon with the “seeds” and let the child roll the dice. Have them count out the seeds aloud as they add them to the watermelon slice. Remove all the seeds then roll again.
Extend your watermelon theme with these other ideas!
