Teaching prepositions to my preschooler has been challenging, they still get confused on occasion but I figured I would just keep reinforcing the prepositions with games and cards. Today I have 2 sets of cards depending on which stage of learning your child is at.
For my younger preschooler I use the all in one card and for my older preschooler I use the 2 cards for sorting.
Using Preposition Cards
These cards are easy to use. Download the printables at bottom of this post and laminate them. I made my cards to a standard laminated pocket so i didn’t have to cut laminated cards as well. Check the link at the bottom too for those. You will find most of my cards on this site are made to fit in these. (I really don’t like to cut so much laminated stuff!) 😉
Once your cards are prepped go over the images with your child helping them say the correct preposition related to the image.
Now use the preposition cards with the words on them and put one of the table and ask your child to find the correct matching picture card to fit the named preposition card.
Single Preposition Cards
These preposition cards are more for the younger preschooler. We go over them together as we did the previous preposition cards.
Now I either show them the card in flash card style and ask them where the chicken is or I ask them to give me the card where the chicken is “under” the coop.
These are just simple ideas to either introduce preposition words or to help your child remember the preposition words better.
And check out those laminating pouches here
