This little craft makes me so happy with it’s pretty little hearts and pink stained flowers. Even more so that my kids loved making it!
I have wrapped much skill practicing into this craft as well. This cute little flower gift can be given as a valentines gift or as a mothers day gift!
This craft was inspired by this simple preschool valentine craft and given an entire DIY twist so that you can make it extra special.
Our beautiful flower gift craft!
The day before making this craft we practiced some squeezing with our spray bottle filled with pink food coloring (diluted just a little with water) on some white cupcake liners. Then left them to dry overnight.
They came out looking gorgeous with the stained effect I desired. You can of course just use already colored cupcake liners for your craft or you could paint them too!
To make this flower gift craft you will need
- 9 cup cake liners in your choice of coloring (3 per flower).
- 3 green pipe cleaners and 1 red one.
- Stuffing for your box. We used red, pink and white crepe paper.
- 1 A4 cardboard sheet for making your box (box template is here)
- Contrasting color paper or cardboard for punching little hearts to decorate the box.
- Optional pebbles to weight down the box for display.
I searched around for a good printable box temple and eventually settled on this free printable popcorn box template (scroll down the page a bit!) which I printed directly onto the color cardboard and cut out. You should pre-fold the box as described on the dotted line but don’t assemble just yet!
Using your contrasting cardboard color or scrap bits if you made more than one box in another color, punch some hearts out. Below is my 18 month old trying to punch some hearts by copying her older brother (4).
Next, take your pre-folded box cut out and dot it with glue and sprinkle the hearts on. I also used some white paper hearts.
Now the original tutorial says to use tape to construct the box, this unfortunately would not work for my kids and the box would be undone in minutes. I went with the hot glue gun. My 18 month old was impressed with the resulting box and her sticking efforts. My 4 year old has the other box but is not so photogenic!
At this point we did some cutting practice (4 year old) and shredded some crepe paper to make stuffing. Little sister happily stuffed her box. Add the optional weights (pebbles) at the bottom before stuffing!
So pretty! To make the flowers take one green pipe cleaner and 3 cupcake liners, poke the one end of the pipe cleaner through the center of the cupcake liner till all 3 are on and make a little loop to secure and form the flower center. Make 3 like this or more if you want!
Add them to your box with stuffing in a pleasing display. We also made a little heart pipe cleaner stick by just folding the pipe cleaner into the shape.
Ahh, finally a picture of the actual crafter! “Look Mommy flowers!!”
I love these flowers! They look gorgeous in my kitchen currently. They would make the perfect craft gift for any lovely lady that loves receiving these types of things. Mothers, grandmothers, aunts, teachers, you name it!
Perfect for valentines day, mothers day, teachers day and even birthdays I would imagine.
If you make some of these we would love to see your pictures! Do stop by our facebook page and share with us. Can’t wait to see them!
