Making and baking of breads is a culinary staple that has been around since the early days of our ancestors and fire. When i think of early man and their flat breads the picture painted by Jean Auel’s “Earth’s Children” series is in my mind. I really enjoyed those books.
Back to present day and today is my husbands birthday, so in celebrating tradition the birthday person gets his or her favorite meal or item made for that day. My husband has many favorites but he’s been talking about Ciabatta for over a week now, hint taken.
This recipe is a keeper from Food Wishes. It also has a video from Chef John, where he makes the Ciabatta, with commentary in a husky “sexy” voice (he had a cold at the time).
The Ingredients:
4 cups bread flour (I used 3 1/2 cup white and 1/2 cup wheat)
*Note: you can use All-purpose flour if you want
1/4 tsp yeast
2 cups water
1 1/2 tsp salt
This is where you have to watch the video as there are no written down preparation methods, but that’s the fun part! I love watching people cook. haha
Basic run down is, mix the ingredients, stand for 18 hours, layout in classic Ciabatta style, stand 2 hours, bake. But do watch the video, definitely worth it!
